How do I manage categories in my Budgetdog template?
Use the category tabs in your Budgetdog template to add, remove, or rename categories without breaking the rest of the sheet. This keeps your budget, transaction categorization, and related tabs in sync.
Before you edit categories, make sure you are working in the correct tab. For expense categories, use Budgeted Expenses - Estimate. For other items, use Additional Income & Expenses.
Where to edit categories
Only change categories in the tabs that own them:
Budgeted Expenses - Estimate for expense categories
Additional Income & Expenses for other income or expense items
When you update a category in one of those tabs, the change updates throughout the spreadsheet. It also updates the Avery transaction categorization options, so your imported transactions stay aligned with the categories you actually use.
How to add a new category
Open the Budgeted Expenses - Estimate tab.
Find an empty category cell.
Type the new category name.
For non-expense items, add the new entry in Additional Income & Expenses instead.
How to rename or remove a category
Open the tab where the category lives.
Edit the category name directly in the cell to rename it.
Clear the cell if you want to remove the category.
After you save the change, the spreadsheet updates the category everywhere it is used.
Before you change imported categories
You can add more categories at any time, but changing categories after importing can break your spreadsheet.
If you already imported transactions, make category changes carefully. Update the category only if you need to standardize names or add a new option, and avoid editing categories that are already being used in imported data.
What happens after you make changes
Once you edit a category in the correct tab, Avery uses the updated list everywhere else in the template. That includes the category options you see when categorizing transactions in Avery.
